How do i get rid of index.html?

Question: How do i get rid of index.html?

(Posted by: Maddie on 2010-02-04 12:31:31)

I am creating a website using ipage and shopsite. I hae created my store in shopsite, but when i go to my page none of the links work unless I get rid of the index.html after the URL and refresh. I do not want my customers to have to do this, but when I try to get rid of the index.html in shopsite it says "Could not open / home/ users/ web/ b2090/ ipg.fmywebsitename/ store/ page1.html, errno: Permission denied " If I cannot get rid of the index.html is there a way around it?? I would appreciate any and all help :) Thankss :)

Looks like you have ipage hosting. If the following video doesnt help, i would suggest contacting their customer support since they provide the hosting. ipage.com/ support/ tutorials/ DefaultPages.html

Your main page has to be named index.html. Depending on what kind of hosting you have, replacing the original file (or even rewriting it to redirect to your main page) may be possible or it may not. You'll have to find out from whatever company is hosting your site. If you're hosted by Shopsite itself, try shopsite.com/ contact.html
